PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte admitted Tuesday that he was lured to declare Martial Law but had been told that doing so was “not feasible.”
In his visit to the Beit Yaacov Synagogue, the Jewish Association of the Philippines, in Makati, Duterte said that declaring Martial Law would only be the way to crackdown on illegal drugs in the country.“How am I supposed to deal with it (drug problem)? Sometimes, I am tempted really to declare Martial Law but it is not feasible, they say,” the President said.
He then said that in replacement of Martial Law declaration, he merely declared a state of lawlessness.
“That is why I declared state of lawlessness because narco-politics has entered the land,” Duterte said.
Proclamation 55, which was released by the Palace in early September, declared a state of national emergency to prevent lawless violence from spreading nationwide.
The state of lawless violence is ordering the government forces to troop to crowded places to closely monitor suspicious acts.
Duterte said the state of lawlessness would remain in force and effect until lifted or withdrawn by him.
