Senators Richard Gordon and Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday agreed to bury the hatchet following a clash at a congressional inquiry looking into the extrajudicial killings in the country.
"[Gordon] should be man enough to admit na nagkamali siya [that he was wrong]. He falsely accused a member of the committee. Eh ngayong hinarapan siya ng katotohanan...pride ang umiiral. Hindi maganda yun. Lumalabas ang bias ng chairman [Even now that he is faced with the truth, pride is clouding his judgment. That's not good, his bias is showing],” Trillanes said after the incident.
Gordon replaced De Lima as the Senate justice committee chair after she was removed from the postby her fellow senators.
On Wednesday, Gordon said Trillanes was "man enough" to come to his office and talk about what happened.
"[He said] that it just so happened he was very passionate about the cause and that he was going to stop the word war already and I said no problem we're going to be here for a long time dapat magsama tayo nang matino [we should treat each other right]," Gordon told reporters.
Trillanes confirmed the meeting and said some things are best resolved in private, adding that he will no longer issue any statements on the issue.
"It happens dito every once in a while you're on opposing sides of the fence [and then] next issue, you're on the same side so ganun lang yun. Wala namang personalan [It happens. There's nothing personal]," the senator said in a separate interview.
Gordon earlier said he is eyeing an ethics complaint against De Lima for her "unparliamentary" conduct during the inquiry. Aside from the walkout, he said he did not appreciate her allowing Matobato to leave the Senate without their knowledge.
On Wednesday, the senator said he will talk to his fellow committee members about what to do moving forward.
"Kausapin ko na lang sila, pag ethics serious yun eh [I will talk to them, when it's ethics it's a serious issue]," he said.
Gordon, however, said he still sees De Lima as a good friend.
"Di naman siya kalaban...iba yung debate iba yung kaaway [She's not an enemy, the debate is different from fighting]," he said.
"If she wants to talk about it we can talk civilly we can talk in a very cool and collected manner," he added.
Gordon said they plan to continue the inquiry next week but without Matobato as witness.
