MANILA - Senator Leila de Lima on Monday joined a Eucharistic celebration at the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Chapel while the House of Representatives resumed its probe into the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) drug trade.
De Lima attended the mass in commemoration of the World Day Against Death Penalty with some officials of the Commission on Human Rights.
De Lima was emotional during one part of the mass.
President Rodrigo Duterte in August released a "drug matrix," tagging De Lima and several others into the drug trade in the national penitentiary. The President accused De Lima of allowing the trade to flourish during her term as justice secretary.
He also said De Lima's former driver and alleged lover Ronnie Dayan was the one who collected money from drug lords inside
Bilibid.
Convicted crime kingpins told a Congressional investigation last month that they helped raise money to fund De Lima's senatorial campaign this year.
As the House resumed its probe Monday morning, convicted crime lord Jaybee Sebastian also belied De Lima's claim that he was a "government asset."
