BREAKING NEWS: Kris Aquino on 'Marcos necklace' issue: My family would never steal | onlinebloggerph.blogspot.com

'The last thing I think my family would do is to steal someone else's jewelry. And 'yun lang, nainis ako dito, because it was putting into question my mom's memory,' says Kris

MANILA, Philippines – TV host and actress Kris Aquino said she spoke up about the issue of her wearing an alleged Marcos necklace because it was questioning the memory of her mother, former president Corazon Aquino.

During the forum of Ariel's 100 Fearless Females on Tuesday, October 11, Kris said she wanted to set the record straight because some might think the rumor is true.

"Natakot lang ako (I just got scared), that fear was that if you continue ignoring something because you thought it was senseless and baseless, for some people, it can be acknowledged as, 'Ay, baka totoo.' And tigilan na 'ko. (Oh, it might be true. And please leave me alone already.)

"Fourteen years old lang po ako when my mom took office. And I was reviewing it, buti na lang medyo may photographic memory ako – we were not allowed to enter MalacaƱang for at least 10 days because it might have been booby trapped.

There were a lot of things there, and parang, the last thing I think my family would do is to steal someone else's jewelry. And 'yun lang, nainis ako dito, because it was putting into question my mom's memory.

Because obviously saan ko makukuha 'di ba, eh 'di sa nanay ko. So gagawin ba 'yun ng mom ko?" Kris said.

(I was 14 years old when my mom took office. And I was reviewing, good thing I have a bit of a photographic memory – we were not allowed to enter MalacaƱang for at least 10 days because it might have been booby trapped. There were a lot of things there and like, the last thing I think my family would do is to steal someone else's jewelry. And that was it. I really got annoyed with this issue, because it was putting into question my mom's memory. Because obviously, how would I get the supposedly stolen necklace, right? So would my mom do that?)

Kris even showed the box containing the controversial necklace. In her Instagram post, she said she bought it from Italian brand Bottega Veneta.

When asked by host Bianca Gonzalez how she decides when to speak up on issues or keep quiet, Kris said: "One is when you know your narrative is credible, is believable, and is based on facts. Kasi 'di ba kung medyo natatakot ka na baka may butas ang kuwento mo, shut up ka na lang. Pero this time, walang butas."

(One is when you know your narrative is credible, is believable, and is based on facts. Because if you're afraid that there might be loopholes in your story, just shut up about it. But this time, there were no loopholes at all.)

Kris added that she only reacts when her family, most especially her parents, are dragged into the issue.

"Nag-re-react ako minsan especially when it's about the memory of my mom and my dad. One thing is... nung elections, gusto daw mag-divorce 'yung mom and dad ko, mga kamag-anak ng mom ko nagpapatay sa dad ko, 'yung mga ganoon, 'yung parang, ano ba, they're in heaven, give them peace. You don't need to use people who are dead, who sacrificed for this country, in order to win an election," she said.

(I react especially when it's about the memory of my mom and my dad. One thing... during the elections, people claimed my mom and dad allegedly wanted a divorce, that my mom's relatives were the ones who had my dad killed, stuff like that. I was like, come on, they're in heaven already, give them peace. You don't need to use people who are dead, who sacrificed for this country, in order to win an election.)

Kris, who took time off from showbiz, recently announced she was doing a new project under APT Entertainment Incorporated, a subsidiary of Television And Production Exponents Philippines (TAPE) Incorporated.
